श्लोक 1
तथा वसिşte ब्रुवति राजा दशरथः स्वयम् । प्रहृष्टवदनो राममाजुहाव सलक्ष्मणम् ॥१-२२-१॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: वसिष्ठ जी के ऐसा कहने पर, राजा दशरथ ने स्वयं प्रसन्न मुख होकर राम को लक्ष्मण के साथ (अपने पास) बुलाया।
English Translation: When Vashistha thus spoke, King Dasharatha himself, with a joyous face, summoned Rama along with Lakshmana.
श्लोक 2
कृतस्वस्त्ययनं मात्रा पित्रा दशरथेन च । पुरोधसा वसिष्ठेन मङ्गलैरभिमन्त्रितम् ॥१-२२-२॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: माता, पिता दशरथ और पुरोहित वसिष्ठ जी द्वारा जिनका स्वस्तिवाचन (मंगल पाठ) किया जा चुका था तथा जो मंगलाचार से अभिमंत्रित थे...
English Translation: Whose well-being had been invoked by their mother, father Dasharatha, and family preceptor Vashistha, and who were blessed with auspicious mantras...
श्लोक 3
स पुत्रं मूर्ध्न्युपाघ्राय राजा दशरस्तदा । ददौ कुशिकपुत्राय सुप्रीतेनान्तरात्मना ॥१-२२-३॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: ...तब राजा दशरथ ने अत्यंत प्रसन्न मन से अपने पुत्र (राम) के मस्तक को सूँघकर (प्यार करके) उन्हें कुशिकपुत्र (विश्वामित्र) को सौंप दिया।
English Translation: ...then King Dasharatha, smelling the head of his son with an overjoyed inner self, gave him to the son of Kushika.
श्लोक 4
ततो वायुः सुखस्पर्शो नीरजस्को ववौ तदा । विश्वामित्रगतं रामं दृष्ट्वा राजीवलोचनम् ॥१-२२-४॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: कमलनेत्र राम को विश्वामित्र के साथ गए हुए देखकर उस समय धूल-रहित और सुखद स्पर्श वाली वायु बहने लगी।
English Translation: Then, seeing the lotus-eyed Rama gone with Vishwamitra, a pleasant-touching and dustless breeze began to blow.
श्लोक 5
पुष्पवृष्टिर्महत्यासीद् देवदुन्दुभिनिस्वनैः । शङ्खदुन्दुभिनिर्घोषः प्रयाते तु महात्मनि ॥१-२२-५॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: महात्मा राम के प्रस्थान करने पर देवताओं की दुन्दुभियों की गूँज के साथ फूलों की भारी वर्षा हुई तथा शंख और नगाड़ों का घोष गूँज उठा।
English Translation: When the great-souled one set forth, there was a heavy shower of flowers accompanied by the sounds of celestial kettledrums, along with the tumult of conches and drums.
श्लोक 6
विश्वामित्रो ययावग्रे ततो रामो महायशाः । काकपक्षधरो धन्वी तं च सौमित्रिरन्वगात् ॥१-२२-६॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: सबसे आगे विश्वामित्र जी चले, उनके पीछे सिर पर काकपक्ष (बालों की लटें) धारण किए हुए, धनुष लिये महायशस्वी राम चले और उनके पीछे सौमित्रि (लक्ष्मण) ने उनका अनुसरण किया।
English Translation: Vishwamitra walked in front, followed by the highly-renowned, bow-bearing Rama with locks of hair, and he was followed by Saumitri (Lakshmana).
श्लोक 7
कलापिनौ धनुष्पाणी शोभयानौ दिशो दश । विश्वामित्रं महात्मानं त्रिशीर्षाविव पन्नगौ ॥१-२२-७॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: पीठ पर तरकश बाँधे, हाथ में धनुष लिए तथा दसों दिशाओं को सुशोभित करते हुए वे दोनों राजकुमार ऐसे सुशोभित हो रहे थे जैसे महात्मा विश्वामित्र के आगे-पीछे दो तीन सिर वाले नाग चल रहे हों।
English Translation: Bearing quivers and bows, illuminating the ten directions, the two princes followed the great-souled Vishwamitra like two three-headed serpents.
श्लोक 8
अनुजग्मतुरक्षुद्रौ पितामहमिवाश्विनौ । अनुयातौ श्रिया दीप्तौ शोभयेतावनिन्दितौ ॥१-२२-८॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: वे दोनों अक्षुद्र (महान स्वभाव वाले) और अनिन्दित कुमार शोभा से दीप्त होकर, पितामह (ब्रह्मदेव या प्रजापति) के पीछे अश्विनीकुमारों की भाँति चल रहे थे और उस मार्ग को सुशोभित कर रहे थे।
English Translation: The noble and blameless youths, radiant with splendor, followed [him] like the Ashwins following Prajapati, enhancing the beauty [of the path].
श्लोक 9
तदा कुशिकपुत्रं तु धनुष्पाणी स्वलंकृतौ । बद्धगोधाङ्गुलित्राणौ खड्गवन्तौ महाद्युती ॥१-२०-९ (1-22-9)॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: हाथों में धनुष लिए, भली-भाँति अलंकृत, हाथों में गोधाचर्म के अंगुलित्रान (दस्ताने) बाँधे, कटि में तलवार लटकाए, महातेजस्वी...
English Translation: Holding bows in their hands, well-adorned, wearing finger-guards made of iguana skin, equipped with swords, and possessing great radiance...
श्लोक 10
कुमारौ चारुवपुषौ भ्रातरौ रामलक्ष्मणौ । अनुयातौ श्रिया दीप्तौ शोभयेतावनिन्दितौ ॥१-२२-१०॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: ...सुंदर शरीर वाले वे दोनों भ्राता राम और लक्ष्मण शोभा से दीप्त होकर उस यात्रा को अलंकृत कर रहे थे।
English Translation: ...the two brothers Rama and Lakshmana, endowed with charming bodies, radiant with splendor, graced [the journey].
श्लोक 11
स्थाणुं देवमिवाचिन्त्यं कुमाराविव पावकी । अध्यर्धयोजनं गत्वा सरय्वा दक्षिणे तटे ॥१-२२-११॥

श्लोक 12
रामेति मधुरां वाणीं विश्वामित्रोऽभ्यभाषत । गृहाण वत्स सलिलं मा भूत्कालस्य पर्ययः ॥१-२२-१२॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: ...विश्वामित्र जी ने मधुर वाणी में कहा—"हे वत्स राम! जल ग्रहण करो (आचमन करो), जिससे समय का विलंब न हो।"
English Translation: ...Vishwamitra spoke in a sweet voice: "O child Rama, take water, lest there be a delay in time."
श्लोक 13
मन्त्रग्रामं गृहाण त्वं बलामतिबलां तथा । न श्रमो न ज्वरो वा ते न रूपस्य विपर्ययः ॥१-२२-१३॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: "तुम 'बला' और 'अतिबला' नामक मन्त्र-समुदाय को ग्रहण करो। इनके प्रभाव से तुम्हें न तो कभी थकान होगी, न ज्वर (बुखार) आएगा और न ही तुम्हारे रूप में कोई विकार (विकृति) होगा।"
English Translation: "Receive the group of mantras known as 'Bala' and 'Atibala'. Through them, you will experience neither fatigue, nor fever, nor any deterioration of form."
श्लोक 14
न च सुप्तं प्रमत्तं वा धर्षयिष्यन्ति नैर्ऋताः । न बाह्वोः सदृशो वीर्ये पृथिव्यामस्ति कश्चन ॥१-२२-१४॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: "सोते हुए या असावधान अवस्था में भी राक्षस तुम्हारा तिरस्कार (आक्रमण) नहीं कर पाएंगे। पृथ्वी पर भुजाओं के बल में तुम्हारे समान पराक्रमी दूसरा कोई नहीं है।"
English Translation: "Nor will the demons be able to overpower you when you are asleep or heedless. There is no one on earth equal to you in the prowess of your arms."
श्लोक 15
त्रिषु लोकेषु वा राम न भवेत्सदृशस्तव । बलामतिबलां चैव पठतस्तात राघव ॥१-२२-१५॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: "हे राम! तीनों लोकों में भी तुम्हारे समान कोई नहीं होगा। हे तात राघव! 'बला' और 'अतिबला' का पाठ करने वाले को..."
English Translation: "O Rama, nor will there be anyone equal to you in the three worlds. O dear Raghava, while reciting Bala and Atibala..."
श्लोक 16
न सौभाग्ये न दाक्षिण्ये न ज्ञाने बुद्धिनिश्चये । नोत्तरे प्रतिवक्तव्ये समो लोके तवानघ ॥१-२२-१६॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: "...सौभाग्य में, उदारता (दाक्षिण्य) में, ज्ञान में, बुद्धि के निश्चय में तथा उत्तर देने (वक्तृत्व) में इस संसार में तुम्हारे समान कोई अनघ (पापरहित) पुरुष नहीं है।"
English Translation: "...in good fortune, in graciousness, in knowledge, in firmness of intellect, or in counter-argument, O sinless one, there is none equal to you in the world."
श्लोक 17
एतद्विद्याद्वये लब्धे न भवेत् सदृशस्तव । बला चातिबला चैव सर्वज्ञानस्य मातरौ ॥१-२२-१७॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: "इन दोनों विद्याओं को प्राप्त कर लेने पर तुम्हारे समान कोई नहीं रहेगा। ये 'बला' और 'अतिबला' समस्त ज्ञानों की माताएँ हैं।"
English Translation: "Having attained these two sciences, there will be none equal to you. Bala and Atibala are indeed the mothers of all knowledge."
श्लोक 18
क्षुत्पिपासे न ते राम भविष्येते नरोत्तम । बलामतिबलां चैव पठस्तात राघव ॥१-२२-१८॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: "हे पुरुषोत्तम! हे तात राघव! 'बला' और 'अतिबला' का पाठ करने वाले तुम्हें कभी भूख और प्यास नहीं सताएगी।"
English Translation: "Hunger and thirst will not afflict you, O Rama, best of men. Recite Bala and Atibala, dear Raghava."
श्लोक 19
गृहाण सर्वलोकस्य गुप्तये रघुनन्दन । विद्याद्वयमधीयाने यशश्चाथ भवेद् भुवि । पितामहसुते ह्येते विद्ये तेजःसमन्विते ॥१-२२-१९॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: "हे रघुनन्दन! संपूर्ण लोक की रक्षा के लिए इन्हें ग्रहण करो। इन दोनों विद्याओं का अध्ययन करने वाले को पृथ्वी पर महान यश प्राप्त होता है। ये दोनों विद्याएँ पितामह ब्रह्मा की पुत्रियाँ और तेज से संपन्न हैं।"
English Translation: "Accept them for the protection of the entire world, O delight of the Raghu race. One who studies these two sciences attains fame on earth. These two sciences are daughters of Brahmas and are endowed with splendor."
श्लोक 20
प्रदातुं तव काकुत्स्थ सदृशस्त्वं हि पार्थिव । कामं बहुगुणाः सर्वे त्वय्येते नात्र संशयः ॥१-२२-२०॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: "हे काकुत्स्थ! तुम्हें ये देने के लिए तुम ही सबसे उपयुक्त पात्र हो, क्योंकि ये सभी बहुमूल्य गुण स्वेच्छा से तुममें ही विद्यमान हैं, इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है।"
English Translation: "You are indeed worthy to receive them, O descendant of Kakutstha, for all these numerous qualities naturally reside in you, without a doubt."
श्लोक 21
तपसा संभृते चैते बहुरूपे भविष्यतः । ततो रामो जलं स्पृष्ट्वा प्रहृष्टवदनः शुचिः ॥१-२२-२१॥

प्रतिजग्राह ते विद्ये महर्षेर्भावितात्मनः । विद्यासमुदितो रामः शुशुभे भूरिविक्रमः ॥१-२२-२२॥

श्लोक 23
सहस्ररश्मिर्भगवाञ्शरदीव दिवाकरः । गुरुकार्याणि सर्वाणि नियुज्य कुशिकात्मजे । ऊषुस्तां रजनीं तत्र सरय्वां सुसुखं त्रयः ॥१-२२-२३॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: ...जैसे शरद ऋतु में हजार किरणों वाले भगवान सूर्य सुशोभित होते हैं। कुशिकात्मज (विश्वामित्र) के सभी गुरु-कार्यों (आदेशों) को पूरा करके वे तीनों उस रात सरयू के तट पर अत्यंत सुखपूर्वक रहे।
English Translation: ...like the thousand-rayed divine sun in autumn. Having attended to all the duties enjoined by the son of Kushika, the three of them spent that night very comfortably on the banks of the Sarayu.
श्लोक 24
दशरथनृपसूनुसत्तमाभ्यां तृणशयनेऽनुचिते तदोषिताभ्याम् । कुशिकसुतवचोऽनुलालिताभ्याम् सुखमिव सा विबभौ विभावरी च ॥१-२२-२४॥
हिन्दी व्याख्या: राजा दशरथ के श्रेष्ठ पुत्रों (राम और लक्ष्मण) द्वारा, जो सोने योग्य न होने पर भी तृणों की शैया पर सोए थे और कुशिकनंदन (विश्वामित्र) के वचनों से दुलारित (आश्वस्त) थे, वह रात्रि अत्यंत सुखद रूप में व्यतीत हुई।
English Translation: Spent by the two excellent sons of King Dasharatha—who slept on a bed of grass though unaccustomed to it, and who were coaxed by the words of the son of Kushika—that night shone forth as if supremely blissful.
