श्रीमद्वाल्मीकियरामायणे बालकाण्डे पञ्चाशः सर्गः ॥१-५०॥

१. ततः प्रागुत्तरां गत्वा रामः सौमित्रिणा सह। विश्वामित्रं पुरस्कृत्य यज्ञवाटमुपागमत् ॥१॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: तत्पश्चात श्रीराम ने सौमित्रि (लक्ष्मण) के साथ तथा विश्वामित्रजी को आगे करके उत्तर-पूर्व दिशा की ओर जाकर यज्ञवाट (यज्ञशाला) में प्रवेश किया।
  • English Translation: Thereafter Rama, along with Saumitri (Lakshmana) and keeping Vishwamitra at their fore, proceeded towards the north-east direction and approached the sacrificial arena.

२. रामस्तु मुनिशार्दूलमुवाच सहलक्ष्मणः। साध्वी यज्ञसमृद्धिर्हि जनकस्य महात्मनः ॥२॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: लक्ष्मण के साथ श्रीराम ने मुनियों में श्रेष्ठ विश्वामित्रजी से कहा—"महात्मा जनक के इस यज्ञ की समृद्धि वास्तव में बहुत उत्तम और पूर्ण है।"
  • English Translation: Along with Lakshmana, Rama spoke to the preeminent sage: "Truly, the prosperity of the sacrifice belonging to the high-souled Janaka is most excellent."

३. बहूनीह सहस्राणि नानादेशनिवासिनाम्। ब्राह्मणानां महाभाग वेदाध्ययनशालिनाम् ॥३॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: "हे महाभाग! यहाँ विभिन्न देशों से आए हुए वेद-अध्ययन में प्रवीण ब्राह्मणों के अनेक सहस्र समूह उपस्थित हैं।"
  • English Translation: "'O highly fortunate one, there are thousands of Brahmins here residing from various lands, well-versed in the study of the Vedas.'"

४. ऋषिवाटाश्च दृश्यन्ते शकटीशतसंकुलाः। देशो विधीयतां ब्रह्मन् यत्र वत्स्यामहे वयम् ॥४॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: "सैकड़ों गाड़ियों (शकटी) से भरे हुए ऋषियों के निवास-स्थान (वाट) भी दिखाई दे रहे हैं। हे ब्रह्मन्! आप वह स्थान निश्चित कीजिए, जहाँ हम लोग निवास करें।"
  • English Translation: "'Abodes of the sages, crowded with hundreds of carts, are also visible. O Brahman, designate the place where we shall reside.'"

५. रामस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः। निवासमकरोद् देशे विविक्ते सलिलान्विते ॥५॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: श्रीराम के उस वचन को सुनकर महामुनि विश्वामित्र ने एक ऐसे एकान्त और जल से युक्त स्थान पर उनके ठहरने की व्यवस्था की।
  • English Translation: Hearing those words of Rama, the great sage Vishwamitra arranged a dwelling place in a secluded and well-watered region.

६. विश्वामित्रमनुप्राप्तं श्रुत्वा नृपवरस्तदा। शतानन्दं पुरस्कृत्य पुरोहितमनिन्दितः ॥६॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: जब अनिन्दित श्रेष्ठ राजा (जनक) ने यह सुना कि विश्वामित्रजी आ चुके हैं, तब उन्होंने अपने पुरोहित शतानंदजी को आगे किया—
  • English Translation: When the blameless best of kings (Janaka) heard that Vishwamitra had arrived, placing his preceptor Shatananda at his fore—

७. ऋत्विजोऽपि महात्मानस्त्वर्घ्यमादाय सत्वरम्। प्रत्युज्जगाम सहसा विनयेन समन्वितः ॥७॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: —और महात्मा ऋत्विजों के साथ अघ्य सामग्री लेकर, परम विनय के साथ वे शीघ्रता से उनकी अगवानी के लिए आगे बढ़े।
  • English Translation: —along with high-souled officiating priests, taking the arghya offering swiftly, he went forth to meet them with deep humility.

८. विश्वामित्राय धर्मेण ददौ धर्मपुरस्कृतम्। प्रतिगृह्य तु तां पूजां जनकस्य महात्मनः ॥८॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: उन्होंने धर्मपूर्वक, धर्माभिमानी विश्वामित्रजी को वह सत्कार प्रदान किया। महात्मा जनक द्वारा दी गई उस पूजा को ग्रहण करके—
  • English Translation: In accordance with righteousness, he bestowed honors upon Vishwamitra. Having accepted that worship offered by the high-souled Janaka—

९. पप्रच्छ कुशलं राज्ञो यज्ञस्य च निरामयम्। स तांश्चाथ मुनीन् पृष्ट्वा सोपाध्यायपुरोधसः ॥९॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: —विश्वामित्रजी ने राजा की कुशलता और यज्ञ के निर्विघ्न रूप से संपन्न होने का समाचार पूछा। साथ ही उन्होंने उपाध्याय और पुरोहित सहित उन सभी मुनियों की कुशलता पूछी।
  • English Translation: —he inquired after the well-being of the king and the unhindered progress of the sacrifice. Having likewise asked after those sages along with their preceptor and purohita—

१०. यथार्हमृषिभिः सर्वैः समागच्छत् प्रहृष्टवत्। अथ राजा मुनिश्रेष्ठं कृताञ्जलिरभाषत ॥१०॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: सभी ऋषियों ने यथारूप परस्पर प्रफुल्लित होकर भेंट की। इसके पश्चात हाथ जोड़कर राजा ने मुनिश्रेष्ठ (विश्वामित्र) से कहा—
  • English Translation: —all the sages met one another with great joy. Thereupon the king, with joined palms, addressed the best of sages:

११. आसने भगवानास्तां सहैभिर्मुनिपुंगवैः। जनकस्य वचः श्रुत्वा निषसाद महामुनिः ॥११॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: "हे भगवन्! आप इन मुनिश्रेष्ठों के साथ इस आसन पर विराजमान हों।" जनक के इस वचन को सुनकर महामुनि (विश्वामित्र) आसन पर बैठ गए।
  • English Translation: "'O Bhagavan, let Your Holiness be seated on this seat along with these preeminent sages.'" Hearing Janaka's words, the great sage sat down.

१२. पुरोधा ऋत्विजश्चैव राजा च सहमन्त्रिभिः। आसनेषु यथान्यायमुपविष्टाः समन्ततः ॥१२॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: पुरोहित, ऋत्विज, राजा और उनके मंत्रीगण—सभी यथान्याय चारों ओर अपने-अपने आसनों पर बैठ गए।
  • English Translation: The purohita, the priests, the king, and his ministers all seated themselves appropriately on their respective seats on all sides.

१३. दृष्ट्वा स नृपतिस्तत्र विश्वामित्रमथाब्रवीत्। अद्य यज्ञसमृद्धिर्मे सफला दैवतैः कृता ॥१३॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: वहाँ विश्वामित्रजी को देखकर राजा (जनक) ने उनसे कहा—"आज देवताओं ने मेरी यज्ञ की समृद्धि को सफल बना दिया है।"
  • English Translation: Beholding Vishwamitra there, the king then said to him: "Today the prosperity of my sacrifice has been rendered fruitful by the gods."

१४. अद्य यज्ञफलं प्राप्तं भगवद्दर्शनान्मया। धन्योऽस्म्यनुगृहीतोऽस्मि यस्य मे मुनिपुंगवः ॥१४॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: "आपके दर्शन मात्र से आज मुझे यज्ञ का संपूर्ण फल प्राप्त हो गया है। हे मुनिश्रेष्ठ! मैं धन्य हूँ और अनुगृहीत हूँ, जो आप मेरे यहाँ पधारे हैं।"
  • English Translation: "'Today I have attained the fruit of my sacrifice simply by beholding you. I am blessed and favored, O preeminent sage—'"

१५. यज्ञोपसदनं ब्रह्मन् प्राप्तोऽसि मुनिभिः सह। द्वादशाहं तु ब्रह्मर्षे दीक्षामाहुर्मनीषिणः ॥१५॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: "हे ब्रह्मन्! आप मुनियों के साथ मेरे यज्ञ-मंडप में पधारे हैं। हे ब्रह्मर्षे! विद्वान पुरुष यज्ञ की दीक्षा बारह दिन की बताते हैं।"
  • English Translation: "'—that you, O Brahman, along with the sages, have arrived at the sacrificial pavilion. O Brahmarshi, the wise declare the period of initiation to be twelve days.'"

१६. ततो भागार्थिनो देवान् द्रष्टुमर्हसि कौशिक। इत्युक्त्वा मुनिशार्दूलं प्रहृष्टवदनस्तदा ॥१६॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: "अतः हे कौशिक! इसके पश्चात आप हविष्य का भाग लेने के लिए आने वाले देवताओं के दर्शन कर सकेंगे।" मुनियों में श्रेष्ठ विश्वामित्रजी से ऐसा कहकर, प्रफुल्लित मुख वाले—
  • English Translation: "'Therefore, O Kaushika, thereafter you shall be able to behold the gods coming to receive their share of the oblations.'" Having spoken thus to the tiger among sages, the king, with a joyful countenance—

१७. पुनस्तं परिपप्रच्छ प्राञ्जलिः प्रयतो नृपः। इमौ कुमारौ भद्रं ते देवतुल्यपराक्रमौ ॥१७॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: —पवित्र अंतःकरण वाले तथा हाथ जोड़े हुए उस राजा ने पुनः उनसे पूछा—"आपका कल्याण हो, देवता के समान पराक्रमी ये दोनों कुमार कौन हैं?"
  • English Translation: —with joined palms and a composed mind, the king inquired of him once more: "May you be blessed, who are these two youths of godlike valor?"

१८. गजतुल्यगती वीरौ शार्दूलवृषभोपमौ। पद्मपत्रविशालाक्षौ खड्गतूणीधनुर्धरौ। अश्विनाविव रूपेण समुपस्थितयौवनौ ॥१८॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: "हाथी के समान जिनकी चाल है, जो वीर हैं, व्याघ्र और वृषभ के समान शक्तिशाली हैं, कमल के पत्र जैसी बड़ी-बड़ी आँखें वाले हैं, तलवार, तरकश और धनुष धारण किए हुए हैं, रूप में अश्विनीकुमारों के समान तथा यौवन से संपन्न हैं—"
  • English Translation: "'Endowed with the gait of elephants, heroic, resembling tigers and bulls, with eyes large as lotus petals, bearing swords, quivers, and bows, resembling the Ashvins in beauty and standing at the threshold of youth—'"

१९. यदृच्छयेव गां प्राप्तौ देवलोकादिवामरौ। कथं पद‍्भ्यामिह प्राप्तौ किमर्थं कस्य वा मुने ॥१९॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: "—मानो देवलोक से दो देवता स्वेच्छा से पृथ्वी पर उतर आए हों। हे मुने! ये पैदल ही इस मार्ग से यहाँ कैसे आए हैं, किस प्रयोजन से और किसके पुत्र हैं?"
  • English Translation: "'—as though two immortals had descended from heaven to earth of their own accord. How have they arrived here on foot, O sage, for what purpose, and whose sons are they?'"

२०. वरायुधधरौ वीरौ कस्य पुत्रौ महामुने। भूषयन्ताविमं देशं चन्द्रसूर्याविवाम्बरम् ॥२०॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: "उत्तम अस्त्र-शास्त्र धारण करने वाले ये दोनों वीर किसके पुत्र हैं, हे महामुने? जो इस देश को ऐसे सुशोभित कर रहे हैं जैसे आकाश को चंद्रमा और सूर्य।"
  • English Translation: "'Bearing noble weapons, whose sons are these two heroes, O great sage, who are embellishing this land like the moon and the sun adorn the sky?'"

२१. परस्परस्य सदृशौ प्रमाणेङ्गितचेष्टितैः। काकपक्षधरौ वीरौ श्रोतुमिच्छामि तत्त्वतः ॥२१॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: "कद-कठी, हाव-भाव और चेष्टाओं में एक-दूसरे के बिल्कुल सदृश, सिर पर काकपक्ष (बालों की लटें) धारण करने वाले इन वीरों के विषय में मैं यथार्थ रूप से सुनना चाहता हूँ।"
  • English Translation: "'Matching each other in physical stature, gestures, and movements, and wearing their hair in locks (kakapaksha), I wish to hear the truth about these heroes.'"

२२. तस्य तद् वचनं श्रुत्वा जनकस्य महात्मनः। न्यवेदयदमेयात्मा पुत्रौ दशरथस्य तौ ॥२२॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: महात्मा जनक के उस वचन को सुनकर अमेयात्मा (असीम बुद्धि वाले) विश्वामित्रजी ने उन दोनों को राजा दशरथ के पुत्रों के रूप में परिचित कराया—
  • English Translation: Hearing those words of the high-souled Janaka, the immeasurable-souled Vishwamitra introduced them as the sons of King Dasharatha:

२३. सिद्धाश्रमनिवासं च राक्षसानां वधं यथा। तत्रागमनमव्यग्रं विशालायाश्च दर्शनम् ॥२३॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: उन्होंने सिद्धाश्रम में निवास, राक्षसों का वध, वहाँ से निर्विघ्न आगमन और विशाला (नगरी) का दर्शन—
  • English Translation: —recounting their dwelling in Siddhashrama, the slaying of the demons, their unhindered journey thence, and the sight of Vishala—

२४. अहल्यादर्शनं चैव गौतमेन समागमम्। महाधनुषि जिज्ञासां कर्तुमागमनं तथा ॥२४॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: —तथा अहिल्या के दर्शन, गौतम ऋषि से उनका मिलन, और यहाँ विशाल धनुष के प्रति जिज्ञासा रखने के कारण उनका यहाँ आना—यह सब कह सुनाया।
  • English Translation: —as well as the sight of Ahalya, her reunion with Gautama, and their arrival here out of curiosity regarding the mighty bow.

२५. एतत् सर्वं महातेजा जनकाय महात्मने। निवेद्य विररामाथ विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ॥२५॥

  • हिन्दी व्याख्या: महातेजस्वी महामुनि विश्वामित्र महात्मा जनक को यह सब वृत्तांत पूरी तरह बताकर शांत हो गए (अपनी बात समाप्त की)।
  • English Translation: Having fully related all this to the high-souled Janaka, the highly radiant great sage Vishwamitra concluded his narrative.

इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीये आदिकाव्ये बालकाण्डे पञ्चाशः सर्गः ॥१-५०॥
